For signal to your converter grab the twisted pair wires in either B pillar. That is the pillar in the middle.

On the driver side the wires are white and green.

The power wire easily passes after drilling a white plastic square plug on the firewall accessible from under the driver side dash. No need to take panels off.

The rest is simple.

After almost 20 years I have installed everything hundreds and thousands of times. I have no reason to lie. Wish I did. Like I wish I was getting paid for the following insight.

I hate directed electronics. The company is a fraud. The founder was a back stabbing thief who stole technology from his friends and ran to the patent office. I actually despise this company. The owner later sold the business and became a California Senator. Perfect fit. I guess only the best of frauds get recruited to government.

DEI does not care about installers and local shops anymore. They sold us out and provide the worst warranties and support. I hate this company so much I hope they lose their investment. However. No matter how much I despise the poor character of directed electronics, I cannot lie.

Their car alarms are the most reliable, highest quality and best value. Why do I sell them? Simple. They work perfectly. I have had maybe 3 units go bad on me since 1995.WOW! One of them I think I messed up myself, the other set on the shelf too long and I think it was 1st generation of a new model — remote failed. The third was so long ago, I don’t know what the reason was. As a comparison, other alarms I would return as many as 15%, and a few brands 30% with one brand was 98%. The last one burned as I had to replace all systems at my expense when the supplier turned off his phones. Ouch.

Viper car alarms are the flagship for DEI. These are awesome pieces. Same as Python and Avital. Used to also be Sidewinder. Automate is a dealer version which I am not happy with. But Viper and Python are the best alarms today. The only thing DEI did well in the past was listen to the installers and came out with a great security system. Their introductory piece is built with the same quality components as their highest model. Pure quality.

I confidently install their products without any worry of warranty issues.

While I love DEI products I hate the company.

Now that I think about it, I doubt they would pay for this endorsement. They probably will file a lawsuit against me — Well, as long as they don’t this website will stay up.

Buy with confidence and don’t settle for anything less, buy Viper and Python brands.

This is strictly for experienced Technicians –

Passlock II cuts of the fuel as a security measure against theft of the vehicle. For remote start applications it can be a pain in your ass. Well, put away that bypass module. What a waste of space that was.

For most Passlock II yellow and orange/black are the wires you need

1)Cut the yellow wire

2)also, cut the starter wire

3)strip the orange/black wire

4)connect your DMM to the orange wire and the ignition key side of the yellow wire

5)turn the key to start and record the resistance

6)do step 6 3 or 4times to be sure

7)get a resistor with measured value and connect to orange wire and the other side of the yellow wire, the side away from the key.

8)reconnect your starter wire and Passlock II is bypassed

Some trucks and early model cars the color wires for Passlock II was not always consistent. The method is the same you may just have to check the wires. Whatever the tech sheet tells you to do, just remember that a simple resistor takes care of everything.

For those who do everything strictly by the book, wake up — Passlock II wasn’t exactly the most reliable system for GM. Then again, GM wasn’t very reliable for GM. I have seen many GM cars where the Passlock II would fail. No remote start installed or anything. You are doing your customer a favor by completely bypassing this poor design.

Older GM vehicles, like the Camaro, Corvette and Firebird, as well as many luxury vehicles came equipped with a primitive Vehicle Anti-Theft System known as VATS. It was the simplest of systems. VATS is easily seen by looking at the key. It can be described as a black plastic embedded in the shaft of the key (the metal part), and a piece of thin metal inside it.

This thin metal is a resistor. A resistor is a common component in all electronics. The resistance value of the key can be measured with a digital meter by probing the metal tabs on each side of the key. Make sure your fingers do not touch both sides simultaneously in order to get an accurate measurement.

There were approximately 15 combinations to VATS. This made it very simple to steal the vehicle. Should you have one of these vehicles, you may be experiencing a problem with the VATS security. To be sure, check your battery very well. Many times people claimed a mechanic checked the battery and turned out that was not the case.

When VATS fails, turning the key forward acts as if the battery is dead, except your power stays on. Before you run out to the dealer to buy a new computer, read this article.

VATS is easy to bypass. Measure the resistance and go to Radio Shack to find the value of the resistance measured. There is a 10% tolerance so you do not need to be exact.

Inside your vehicle you must remove the panel that would touch your knees when you are sitting in the driver’s seat. Typically you will either need a philips screw driver or a 7mm socket. In either case, gain entry to the steering column where you shall be met with an assortment of wires.

Don’t panic. You are looking for a thin orange wire. It is very thin. When you find it feel or carefully strip the casing to verify there are 2 more thinner white wires inside. If so, cut the orange wire. The side NOT going to the steering wheel is where you need to focus. The resistor you purchased from Radio Shack must tie the 2 white wires together with the resistor in the middle. If the VATS was your issue, your car will now start.

PRICE COMPARE

Alarm w/Remote Start typical installation
